I'd suggest that you ask around on the NextGen Planners members Slack group. There are definitely people who are going through this decision making process. It is a members group so you would need to sign up (can't remember the cost, but I get a lot…

Hi @lauroyle we do Impact Investing here at EQ. It's important to begin with the end in mind and know what impact you want to have / what you want to avoid. Build your normal asset allocation and then look at the opportunities within it. You might h…

If you don't want to wade through the tribunal doc (personally I find these disturbingly interesting) this is a really good quick summary. https://www.sackers.com/pension/hymanson-v-hmrc-first-tier-tribunal-13-november-2018/ Can't see any indicatio…

I think OMW, Novia, & Elevate do this. However Elevate always used to be via a spreadsheet put together by them (we had to sign a disclaimer). Certain there are others, but they don't come to mind immediately.

7 Habits is on my reading list to go through again this quarter too. Really rewarding read.

If the potential 'gain' is £150k really worth pushing this hard. Might be necessary for the client to lawyer up though...

I think there was a case recently where FP was retained due to the 'genuine error' provisions in general law. It may be worth taking a look at it (found the link in my emails) and considering getting the client to appeal HMRC's position. This was…

If he hasn't broken the threshold income test then you can ignore the other one so no tapering. PS. Client will be using personal allowance up against divis. £11,850 plus the £2k will get him £13,850 tax free. Not the most efficient, but ok. I'd …

An issue that is concerning our investment team is the data sources platforms are using to disclose transaction and incidental charges on funds. We've ended up using a combination of FE, Morningstar, and going direct to the fund managers to get a re…

The trickiness is dealing with equalisation, reinvestment (for ACC), pooled holdings, 30 day rule etc... I've had to build the spreadsheet calcs by hand and it's a nightmare (sorry don't have a 'clean' copy to share though). I discovered the reason…

I'm not too sure on that @arongunningham as it seems to be referring to financial promotions rather than entering into/changing contracts. Part, I think, of how this all goes down is the point about being a MIFID II company or a third country compan…

Canada Life Brexit FAQs are here: https://www.canadalife.co.uk/adviser/faqs?s=Brexit Sounds like they are expecting BAU even on Dublin whether there is a deal or no deal... I agree @arongunningham - it's unprecendented... There is so much unce…

I've been told that Canada Life are releasing their position soon. Guess the vote last night on the Withdrawal Agreement didn't help - neither will tonight's no-confidence vote...

@Martin_Green has some good views on this.

Thanks for sharing your approach @TomLloyd_Read. I'd forgotten about Manx probate, but recall reading that it is 'a pain'...

Pru page - https://www.pruadviser.co.uk/about/news/pia-brexit-update/?icid=text_news-articles Seems to imply https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2018/1149/pdfs/uksi_20181149_en.pdf means business as usual until 2022

Hi @lauroyle. You tend to get smaller projects/organisations using SITR relief rather than funds from what I can see. I.E. Charities/relevant organisations have a project in mind to fund and then use this relief. Resonance are very active in helping…

I find people are more prone to make mistakes when they keep getting interrupted. It can be tricky to manage this without being unapproachable (not a desirable outcome). Use of headphones (for limited periods of time) can be a useful tool. Maybe see…

I'd just be mindful of whether there are other better solutions to meeting client need. May be better from IHT point of view (depending on numbers) to keep the pension despite the tax free (in life) payment... The definitions providers use will vary…

I'd be interested to hear how you get on/what you think of it. I suspect there are a few people lurking on this board who are mulling over this addition to their qualifications... I've not done it, but it's on my 'wishlist'/radar...

Then you'll love this that is going in a briefing i'm drafting! This is in the section talking about what is going in the SR rather than the file. "The document is not meant to educate the client to the level that they could take and pass the Pen…

I've read Rory's guide too. In general it is helpful, but do remember that much refers to the consultation paper as opposed to the policy statement. So do check COBS yourself too - and set it to show the rules applying from October (https://www.hand…

Ok. I managed to make a spreadsheet that gives the RIY, but it only works for a single lump sum contribution. I think that it should also be possible to give this RIY for decumulation, but I don't think it's working... I've attached it if anyone's …

My view is that they are separate crystallisation events you should be reconsidering whether the taxable income should be through FAD (zero income) or annuity purchase. CY A is then relevant for the decision to defer. Hope that helps Luis

I've had Aegon and Royal London suggested as i'm looking for a provider that can do all products. As a curve-ball we do have some contacts via the Protection Review so thinking about exploring those avenues... It's on the slower track as we have lo…
