Well done on passing it. I've been told it's one of the harder ones (although I did better in that one than any of my other R0 exams!!). I think it's worth more than 10 credits as well, so timing is also an important factor - that hour doesn't l…

Some readers switch off before they even start reading it!!! It's only years later when a CMC contacts them that they dig it out and claim ignorance

200 pages for a report sounds excessive. I know things can mount up but that would point to unneccessary information being included (eg explaining an ISA for a pension switch - I have seen this!!!)

I use Santander. I'm a bit old school, so I went around various high street banks, and none of them were interested in talking to me. They directed me to their website and weren't interested in talking to me at all, with the exception of two: Me…

I would guess it would be effective from 6 April. I've been looking around as well but all I can find is references to the state pension age increases and the inflation busting increase next April. As all the other reliefs and allowances start f…

It is true, and it doesn't just count for SJP. Hopefully this link will work - it's a pathways trainee guide from the PFS https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=2ahUKEwilvOmM1sTlAhUYVBUIHXgr…

I can't help much with the PETs but would a WoL help with potential IHT bills on failed PETs and beyond?

If you're outsourced, you can briefly explain what an adviser does (comes to see you, finds out what you have, what you want to achieve, then comes back with research, analysis, report, cashflow). You tell them that you do all that. Even more br…

Expert Pensions does have a higher cost than other training providers, but when you look at what is included you will see that they are actually very good value for money. I signed up for their AF7 and that gives you access to a condensed study tex…

I would suggest going on holiday for a couple of weeks. I flew out to Orlando the day after my exam in April, and when I got back it didn't seem that long a wait. I guess if you take an exam every 6 months that could get expensive!!

If you are an in-house paraplanner with an adviser that uses Cashcalc you can get a free paraplanner licence

Interesting to see that an apprentice would be required to complete the Certificate in Paraplanning. I assume that the Diploma would be an acceptable equivalent? If I were to take on people in the future that wanted to study I'd be more likely to …

Maybe the ISA's not performing as well as last year...

I'm planning on doing this but not sure when. A number of factors are influencing my decision: * Lack of time * How the model answer came from a 2 line question (I've looked at the examples on the CII website!) * The issues a lot of people s…

Prudential are committed to Unipass (so they told me today) so they'll be missing out on business as a result

It also turns out that the only browser that you can collect it on is Internet Explorer. A bit of a paradox, for a company that issues such a security key to insist that you use a browser that has more holes than Rab C Nesbitt's string vest... U…

Firstly, kudos to you for passing those exams with no experience. They are tough for people who work in the industry, let alone a rank outsider! There are a number of outsourced paraplanning companies out there who would be prepared to take on s…

Yes, it's all done on percentages rather than the £ and p amount crystallised

@Rebecca_Tuck said: Generally, I'd recommend not phoning the standard CISI line if you have specific queries about Financial Planning exams - they're fine for bookings etc. but if you want any detail then I'd recommend having a chat with Chri…

Having clients on a retainer is definitely the best option, and provides a regular, predictable income stream. Some clients are a little reticent about it to begin with, or think they will only do a small amount of work, and that's fine. I'd revie…

I expect Professional Paraplanner might have some data on that - they have some sort of statistics data each month in their magazine, and there maybe something on their website.

I have October 15 to April 18 which I can forward to anyone who wants them

Haha - that was my exact question several months back - I saw the Howwow from 2 years ago where Nathan, Kate and Ashley discussed this very subject with Richard and it was that that got me thinking seriously about the whys and wherefores. I 'wen…

Me too. I'm trying to get my head around retainers; not sure I've got the time (or the inclination) to add another layer of complexity!

I took the decision to charge VAT from day one, as a kind of 'future proofing', so that there wouldn't be a perceived 20% hike in my costs when I breach the threshold. I don't see myself as exempt as I am not personally intermediating; it's the a…

I've just started and am currently in my free trial of Genovo. Can you share what you don't like about it?

I'll keep you posted on the more money bit! Income has dropped somewhat but it's early days yet!

I heard of one 'paraplanner' who had R01 and was being paid £40k in London. She had an interview where I used to work and was told that there was no way she would get that (I'm diploma and was getting paid significantly less!!)

I would suggest writing the suitability report for the advice you have given him, and then (as @Nathan says) get a written letter from him (not typed by you; it must be his words) explaining why he wants to do it. Whether you facilitate this is o…

Come to think of it, my liability is capped as well. At the moment I don't think it is something I can afford, and any successful 'claim' would be much less than the annual premium anyway. I think that settles it, for now at least! Thanks fo…
