Dear All,
What helped you master a scientific calcuator and the calculations for the exam? I haven't used a Scientific Calculator before and I feel that this is letting me down majorly for this exam. Any help would be much appreciate, thanks. Claire

Hi Claire,
Funny, I was just helping an R02 student with their calculator yesterday and sent him this http://www.open.edu/openlearn/ocw/mod/oucontent/view.php?id=4256&printable=1
I'd say get a very common model like a Casio FX83, I think that's what my lovely pink one is!
Re calculations for the exam, practice and practice! Keep writing them down and write them out in the same order during the very generous time they give you to practice the exam software.
During the exam, I would skip anything difficult and get all your easy points down before you might get flustered and begin doubting yourself.
If the most complicated calcs remain difficult, don't worry about it, that alone isn't going to cost you a significant number of marks so remember to concentrate your preparation time / efforts on where the marks are. In particular, you're probably most likely to drop marks on the multiple tick questions...
My colleague is super diligent is learning all the material properly... I'm afraid I'm in the camp of there are no extra prizes for exceeding the pass mark. Don't work hard, work smart and all that.
Good luck!
Clare
Thank you so much, I just picked this up now!

Is your calculator like this?
Are you a Financial Adviser?
My exam is on the 25th of July and I'm starting to panic! I've had a really bad study morning today and it's knocked my confidence. I failed the exam the first time round so I'm really hoping I can pass on my second attempt.
I look forward to hearing from you. Claire
thanks for this as I taking ro1 next week so atleast I can prepare myself for ro2 starting with a good calculator. Are calculations needed in ro1 at all?
No, none of the calculations that are in R02 are in R01. It's more just about knowing the bands etc. Good Luck!

I’m glad you said that as in the brand app I’m using there are loads of calculations yet on wizard learning nothing. I’ve also left an email with the cii to ask as I’m worrying 🙈
Thanks for confirming. I do t understand why in the brand revision for ro1 there is loads of calculations
@stacey_smith I know it's hard but try not to panic. Have you got the Aviva and Cii practice papers too? When is your exam?
