Pensions and ESA benefits

Firstly, let me say Hi.

I have been working as a paraplanner for just over a year, so am on a rather steep learning curve. This is the first question I have posted so looking forward to your responses. All the paraplanners I have met so far have been knowledgeable, friendly and encouraging, so I feel rather privileged to be part of the group.

Here is the scenario: I have a client who receives ESA. I am trying to find out if his pension will have an impact on his ESA benefit. The client is 58. I have contacted HMRC and they have said that it is determined on a case by case basis. My questions are essentially as follows:

Will the type of pension he has affect his ESA? Occupational versus personal pension?

If he does not take income from his pension, will this have an impact.

In anticipation of a response, I give my thanks.
