  • Cant see it taking off. For many people PP is a way into advice, I am not sure what the pathway from here would be.

  • For many more, @Redawg31 PP is a profession in its own right, as many people on here will attest.

That said, I am not sure whether or not it will take off either. The standard for a long time for a senior paraplanner is level 4 diploma as a minimum, which puts you on an even footing with the advisers you support. Learning about R01 (which appears to be the first part of the paper) and then writing a report in part 2 is obviously a valuable skill to have, but in my opinion you need to have a strong technical knowledge underpin, which I don't think is covered by a course that apparently takes around 9 months to complete.

Although you can do the Diploma in (Regulated) Financial Planning in less time (I know someone who knocked it out in six months), in practice it takes a bit longer. That said, if your adviser's specialism is pensions, then R04 could be one of the first papers you study, and do the others afterwards, so at least you have the knowledge you need to help with the day job, while studying the other papers later.

As for me, I'm still working on Chartered, and I can't see myself doing this paper
