Life Assurance

Hi All,
hopefully quite a basic question re life assurance not in Trust
is probate always required i.e if a husband dies and he had a life assurance policy with the wife as a named beneficiary. would she need probate to claim?
thanks

Simple answer, where in a life assurance policy is a "benficiary" named? It WOULD have been possible for her to have been the grantee of a policy on her husband's life, no need for or applicability of a trust although that does lead to other issues.
I should have added that if a policy is extant he could assign it, again with consequences including of course, as with with grantee at outset route, HE would not HAVE a life assurance policy but merely be the life assured.
